What does good sun protection mean?

The biggest mistake of sunscreen? Not using it!

If you follow our blogs, you know the story of Matthias and Trent - two sunburned kids who are paying the price today for the careless behaviour of their childhood and adolescence.

Skin cancer and skin ageing are preventable, you "only" have to behave consistently, far-sightedly and sensibly. - But this is something we humans sometimes find difficult to do.

Good sun protection looks like this:

  1. Avoid direct sunlight, especially between 12:00 and 15:00. If possible, stay in the shade.
  2. Wear protective clothing, which also stops UV rays.
  3. Use Sunscreen for uncovered areas, even if you are in the shade.

Good behaviour begins with consistent UV protection: through umbrellas, the shade of a tree, long-sleeved tops, wide-brimmed hats if possible, sunglasses, etc. However, when out and about, whether on holiday or in everyday life, not all aids are always at hand, and shade is not to be found everywhere either. In addition, there are always parts of the body, such as the face and hands, that cannot be covered

Now, at the latest, sunscreen comes into play - and with it, three major issues:

  1. Not using enough.
  2. Not using it where it needs to be used.
  3. Just not using it.

Not using enough sunscreen

To get the SPF you expect, you need to use quite a bit of sunscreen. The dermatological guidelines prescribe 2 mg of sunscreen per 1 cm2 of skin area to achieve the SPF specified by the manufacturer. This is a figure that is practically impossible for consumers to assess when applying the product. Although there are aids such as the finger method, shot glass or teaspoon indication, even with these the actual amount required is almost never achieved. A study has shown that sunscreen with a sun protection factor of 50, applied in the usual way, provides at best 40% of the expected protection. Ergo: We are clearly not using enough sunscreen.

The pump system of our Daily Dose Kit reliably delivers 2 ml of cream per pump stroke. Knowing how much skin covers the different limbs of an adult or child, you can calculate the exact number of pumps needed. With this in mind, we've developed a handy chart that shows you how much cream to use depending on the season and weather.

Not using it in all the spots it's needed

Various studies show where people typically forget to apply sunscreen: on hands, feet, cleavage, around straps, waistband, etc. According to studies, 11% of the required skin areas of an adult of average height are not properly protected with sunscreen.

The eco elio pump system and our table help you to apply the right amount of sunscreen for the respective body parts. This way, you have enough cream on hand to evenly distribute it to the appropriate areas.

Just not using sunscreen

You simply forgot to put it on. We all know the situation: It's early in the day, the morning is still fresh - so you don't necessarily think about sunscreen. That's why our Daily Dose Kit in its eye-catching design is particularly helpful here, as you don't have to hide it in the cupboard, but can place it in a clearly visible place. Simply press the pump on the way out and make it a daily habit for the whole family. So UV protection is never forgotten again!

The sunscreen is empty. With our DDK, this won't happen to you so easily. The starter kit contains 250 ml, with the refill pack you have the choice between a pouch with 250 ml or 500 ml. That's a lot of sunscreen - and a lot of protection for you and your family! When your supply runs low, you can quickly replenish it in our store with just a few clicks.

You don't have any cream with you for the road. That's why we developed the Let's Go Bottle - your reliable partner for every outdoor adventure! The starter kit comes with two Let's Go Bottles that hold a total of 140 ml. Simply fill the required amount from the pump dispenser and you're ready for a weekend at the lake or in the mountains.

eco elio is available from our webshop as a Daily Dose Kit including two Let's Go Bottles in the Starter Kit, plus refill pouches with 250 ml and 500 ml and - brand new - a practical 150 ml tube. Our sunscreen has been tested and recommended by the German Allergy and Asthma Association (DAAB), floor displays with pump dispensers can also be found in various dermatological practices and clinics.
